As one of the largest school providers of vocational education and training, our aim is to provide students with real opportunities and support to learn and develop the skills and industry knowledge required to make them “in demand” for employers.

Strategically located in Hallam, the Centre takes advantage of proximity to industry and further education and training institutions to provide options and support during and beyond school. Through Work Experience, Structured Workplace Learning or School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships, students have the opportunity to access on the job experience to complement their program. Engaging with the workplace they get a taste for their chosen career before completing school and moving on to further education and training or employment.

With our highly qualified and experienced teachers maintaining their industry links and contacts, and in conjunction with the staff in our Pathways Hub, students are provided with up to date information about their career pathways. Students may enrol directly into the school to take advantage of the many programs on offer or opt for one of the programs at the school offered through the South East Local Learning and Employment Network VET in Schools programs.

State Of The Art Facilities

The excellent facilities for the programs at Hallam Secondary College were developed with funding from the Trades Training Centres in Schools program. Seven schools have partnered to provide a range of programs through the TTC across three sites with the major facility being at Hallam. Through its Year 10 curriculum, Hallam Secondary College also offers one semester trades taster electives to help students with their subject selections in the senior certificates. Industry standard training facilities have been purpose built to support the programs but are also used for to compliment studies in VCE, VCAL and Year 10. Programs associated with the Trades and Technology Centre of Excellence are part of the suite of programs offered though the Hallam Valley Trades Training Centre.

Pathways Hub

The Pathways Hub is integral to the support provided to students who undertake training in the programs offered as part of the Trades and Technology Centre of Excellence. Students have access to the latest careers and employment information and receive professional, expert guidance and assistance to help them make considered choices. The Pathways Hub also invites local employment and training representatives to speak to students about current opportunities.

Employability Skills

All programs in the Trades and Technology Centre of Excellence are underpinned by nationally recognised employability skills. These skills recognise that students require more than the technical skills for their job but need to develop in areas such as communication, teamwork, problem solving, initiative, planning and organising, self-management, learning and use of technology.

Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) Opportunities

Structured Workplace Learning is an integral part of all Vocational Education and Training programs and specific blocks of time are set aside during the year for students to take advantage of SWL opportunities. Any students interested in SWL should contact the Pathways Hub for assistance and advice.
