Hallam Secondary College is excited to commence the Sports Coaching qualification

(SIS20321 Certificate II in Sports Coaching) in term 1, 2025.

Hallam Secondary College has run a successful Sports Academy program for many years. It employs industry-leading coaches in various sporting areas with experience from local, state, talent pathway, national, and international levels.

The year-long program will consist of the following units of competency: Students will be expected to participate in extensive physical activity and assist as volunteers with running coaching sessions and clinics.

During the year-long program students will be expected to participate in extensive physical activity and assist as volunteers with running coaching sessions and clinics. This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply their skills and knowledge to conduct pre-planned coaching sessions with foundation-level participants in a specific sport, e.g. AFL, rugby league, soccer, netball, or basketball.

This qualification pathways to work in assistant coaching roles or volunteering at community-based sports clubs and organisations in the Australian sports industry. Individuals with this qualification use a defined and limited range of basic coaching skills to engage participants in a specific sport and are involved in mainly routine and repetitive tasks using limited practical skills and basic sports industry knowledge. They work under the supervision of a coach.

Upon completion, individuals may be eligible for job roles such as assistant coach, depending on the specific sport. During this course, students can opt-in to complete formal coaching accreditations with peak bodies and obtain officiating qualifications.

SIS20321 Certificate II in Sports Coaching is open to both Hallam SC students (Years 11&12) and external students in Years 10-12.
